GOLF COURSE GUIDE
The academy course holes range from 30 – 70 yards giving a great opportunity for golfers to work on their short game. Also it is a great beginner’s course for all the family and those just starting out in the game.
After its redevelopment in 2007 the course is a par 70 and at just shy of 6000yds, it provides a good test to all levels of golfer with well positioned bunkers for today’s technology, the greens are USGA specification so provide great consistency all year round, and the large teeing areas enable us to provide all year play without the need for winter mats. With the river Colne running through the course it provides some spectacular views the Colne valley and the nearby picturesque village of West Bergholt.

HOLE 3 PAR 3
“Shultzs Shot” White 130yds Yellow 120yds Red 100yds
Short par3 slightly uphill which can be deceiving, once on the green the undulating slopes can prove a tricky 2 putt for your par

“Frosts Colour Corner” White 374yds Yellow 366yds Red 360yds
Ranked the hardest hole on the course and generally plays it, Seven well positioned bunkers and out of bounds all down the right side and behind the green. A tee shot to a narrow fairway, then a second shot to a tight well guarded green
HOLE 5 PAR 3
“Wee Wedge” White 196yds Yellow 177yds Red 164yds
A difficult par 3 which plays slightly uphill to a two tiered green, with out of bounds on the right it requires a well struck shot to carry the front bunkers
HOLE 6 PAR 4
“Devils Drop” White 369yds Yellow 357yds Red 349yds
A swinging dog leg right and downhill with out of bounds right and left, blind tee shot requires good positioning to leave a short pitch to the green
HOLE 7 PAR 4
“Paddys Choice” White 326yds Yellow 305yds Red 293yds
Tight tee shot with the river to your left and a well positioned bunker to the right side of the fairway, second shot to a long thin green with no margins for error.
HOLE 8 PAR 4
“Lakeside Lament” White 295yds Yellow 279yds Red 262yds
Risk reward tee shot going over water and out of bounds to your right, Positive thoughts are required on your tee shot or you could turn a good chance of birdie into a double bogey 6 very easily. The green is undulating with out of bounds close to the left side.
HOLE 9 PAR 5
“Centre Line” White 474yds Yellow 462yds Red 418yds
The toughest tee shot on the course out of bounds left and a lake to your right, the fairway widens the further you hit the tee shot. Second shot over the cross bunker with out of bounds left is still daunting. A narrow entrance to the green with 2 bunkers guarding the left side.
HOLE 10 PAR 4
“Drews Drop” White 350yds Yellow 334yds Red 320yds
Tee shot slopes in of the right side with a well placed bunker on the left side of the fairway, second shot plays downhill where judgement is crucial as green slopes away on all sides
HOLE 11 PAR 4
“Ploughmans Plunder” White 351yds Yellow 341yds Red 335yds
Sharp dogleg to the right with out of bounds all down the right side, second shot to a small green requires good judgement with club choice to clear the large bunker protecting the green.
HOLE 12 PAR 4
“The Wishbone” White 397yds Yellow 392yds Red 383yds
A sweeping dogleg left that is an uphill tee shot with 2 bunkers on the left side also with out of bounds, the second shot plays downhill to the smallest green on the course.
HOLE 13 PAR 4
“Over the Hill” White 349yds Yellow 332yds Red 319yds
A dogleg right hole with a uphill blind tee shot has to be accurate as there are 4 bunkers that lay in wait, the second shot downhill to a very well-guarded small two tiered green.
HOLE 14 PAR 3
“Par Amor” White 144yds Yellow 125yds Red 110yds
A tough par 3 which you must negotiate the River Colne which runs across the front of the green, club judgement is essential here to walk off with a 3.
HOLE 15 PAR 4
“London Bound” White 385yds Yellow 375yds Red 367yds
A straight par 4 that requires a good drive to leave a mid iron in, the second shot to a reasonably wide entrance to the green, the difficulty to this hole is the green itself and any misjudgement with your approach shot can leave you a tough up and down and with the slopes and undulations on the green a two putt is always a very good result.
HOLE 16 PAR 3
“Captains Challenge” White 138yds Yellow 127yds Red 121yds
A par 3 that plays downhill with 2 bunkers guarding the green, the green itself is wide but not too deep so good club judgement is essential.
HOLE 17 PAR 4
“Colne Bend” White 371yds Yellow 359yds Red 352yds
Tough tee shot with the river in range for the bigger hitters and out of bounds tight down the left side, second shot plays over the river and can be deceptive to a raised undulating green.
HOLE 18 PAR 4
“Tree Tops” White 330yds Yellow 312yds Red 297yds
The tee shot needs to be accurate to miss the fairway bunkers and also keeping out of the trees, second shot with a mid to short iron requires good judgement to a small green as out of bounds is just over the green.
